Overview

This module was created and produced by the American Society of Anesthesiologists to provide basic knowledge of the safe administration of  sedative and analgesic drugs used to establish a level of moderate sedation.  Successful completion of this module is just one component of the requirements that Baptist Health Care's Medical Staff credentialing office requires to maximize patient safety. 



Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:


  1. Describe the qualification requirements for providing moderate (conscious) sedation.
  2. Describe the levels of sedation.
  3. Describe the current practice and management of procedural sedation analgesia in the adult patient.
  4. Identify the types of equipment that must be available when providing sedation.
  5. Describe patient monitoring requirements intra-procedure during moderate (conscious) sedation.
